Optimizar PC Vieja
Speeds up Windows 10 on old computers with a hard drive and 2 GB of RAM, like the Conectar Igualdad netbooks Argentina handed out to students. Antivirus, firewall and updates stay on.

One file, free and open source, for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 10. The script and its menus are in Spanish.
Your browser may ask you to confirm before saving a .bat file. When you open it, Windows shows a SmartScreen warning: click More info, then Run anyway. To stop the warning for good, right-click the file, choose Properties and tick Unblock.
How to use it
- Double-click OptimizarPC.bat. It asks for administrator permission.
- Press 1. The menu takes a single key, no Enter needed.
- No questions asked: it removes the preinstalled apps (the new Outlook stays if it was used in the last year) and keeps OneDrive only if it is in use (a signed-in account with more than 3 files). Copilot and Remote Desktop Connection are always removed. The rest runs on its own: 10 to 20 minutes on a hard drive, a bit longer the first time.
- Restart.
The usual sequence is option 1 and then option 4, which installs Chrome, WinRAR, VLC and Everything.
What it does
- Turns off what eats memory and disk without helping on this hardware: telemetry, the Xbox and Bluetooth services, search indexing, background apps, the taskbar news feed, Windows suggestions, Copilot and Windows AI.
- Makes the most of the RAM: turns on memory compression and sets the page file to twice the RAM.
- Makes the desktop responsive: visual effects set for performance, snappier menus, and the High performance power plan. Photo thumbnails stay.
- Frees up space: clears temporary files, crash dumps and the Chrome and Edge caches, leaving passwords, history, bookmarks and open sessions alone. Anything in the Recycle Bin for more than 30 days gets deleted automatically.
- Brings back Windows 7 classics: Windows Photo Viewer, which can also open WebP, HEIC and AVIF with the Store extensions, and the classic Alt+Tab.
- Schedules Night light from sunset to sunrise.
- Repairs what another tweaker broke: if an earlier script turned off the antivirus, updates or services Windows needs, it puts them back to their defaults.
What it leaves alone
Protection gets checked and repaired, and it is never switched off: Defender, the Firewall, User Account Control, SmartScreen and Windows Update all stay on. Defender keeps its real-time protection; only its scheduled scans are toned down so they do not slow the machine while you use it.
Good to know first
- The power button and closing the lid shut down the computer, with no sleep or hibernation.
- The screen turns off after 15 minutes of inactivity.
- System Restore is turned off and its restore points are deleted. Option 6 is the way back: it returns everything to the defaults and turns System Restore on again.
- On hard drives, write caching stays on: it is faster, and a sudden power cut can cost whatever was being saved at that moment.
- With less than 4 GB of RAM, Bluetooth is turned off; with 4 GB or more it is set to Manual, Windows' default. If you use Bluetooth headphones or a mouse on a PC with less than 4 GB, option 6 puts it back to the default.
The rest of the menu
- A. PC apestada (stuck PC): for a PC so bogged down that even the script crawls. It closes every open program and the hidden ones (printer helpers, updaters, messengers), then goes straight into option 1. Anything unsaved is lost; Windows and remote-access tools stay. It asks once.
- 2. Clean up Windows Update leftovers: advanced and irreversible: installed updates can no longer be uninstalled. It can take up to an hour. It starts right away: if you picked it by mistake, close the window.
- 3. Full defragmentation: a complete pass, every now and then. It can take hours. On an SSD it only runs the SSD optimization, with no defragmenting.
- 4. Install Chrome, WinRAR, VLC and Everything: from the official sources, with winget, in the 32- or 64-bit version that fits. Chrome comes with the uBlock Origin Lite ad blocker, and Everything replaces Windows file search, which option 1 turns off on hard drives.
- 5. Classroom Chrome: for shared school computers. Deletes every Chrome profile, with its accounts and passwords, and leaves Chrome with browser sign-in turned off. It asks you to confirm first.
- 6. Revert: undoes option 1.
- 7. Check: reviews the hardware and the state of every setting without changing anything, and saves a report as a .txt next to the script.
Conectar Igualdad netbooks
It was built with them in mind, Atom models included. If the netbook still has the anti-theft agent and has not been released, the script detects it, warns you and leaves it alone. It also warns you when the video driver is missing: the G3 and G4 models, with the Atom N2600, have no Windows 10 driver.
Requirements
Windows 10 22H2, 32-bit or 64-bit. It only uses cmd and PowerShell, which come with Windows, so there is nothing to install first.
How far a script can go
The biggest upgrade is still hardware: an SSD, even a 120 GB one, and then going from 2 to 4 GB of RAM if the motherboard supports it. Windows 10 gets free security updates until October 12, 2027, once you enroll in Settings > Windows Update.
